You are probably sitting there thinking, “How can I stop overthinking so much?” I get it. I’ve been in the same place as you. Sometimes I still find myself overthinking things but that’s when I remember to calm my mind. In today’s post, I’ll share with you how you can calm your mind and stop overthinking everything.
Calming the Mind
The first step to stop overthinking is to calm the mind.
Calming your mind helps you to focus.
It can even help you to make wiser decisions.
When you have choices to make, calming your mind can be the last thing you actually think about.
You probably aren’t telling yourself that you need to calm your mind.
But this is exactly what you need to do.
Your thoughts are likely all over the place. So you have a need to calm your mind.
If you are tasked with making some big decisions or even a bunch of little decisions, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by it all.
Listen to Your Body
The first step you must take to calm your mind is to listen and be aware of what is going on with your body.
Are you stressed, tired, or overwhelmed?
Knowing this answer can help you to understand what is taking place in your mind.
What goes on in your mind, directly affects your body.
So when you are feeling all these things mentally, you will start to feel them physically as well.
Most times your body is trying to tell you something. You have to listen to it.
I’m telling you. You do not want to ignore what your body is saying to you.
Every cramp, pain, or other symptom is speaking to you.
Part of being able to calm your mind is first understanding what it is that is going on in the first place.
Yes, I said it. You need to relax. One important way to calm your mind is to relax.
Try to stop thinking so much.
I realize this is easier said than done.
But you have to do it.
Do things that relax you. Whether that is watching your favorite show or listening to some smooth jazz. Do it.
You’ll be more than happy that you did.
Trying to relax can be difficult, especially if you are like me.
It is extremely hard for me to turn off my thoughts.
I be thinking, “How can I stop overthinking so much?” but then I turn around and keep overthinking.
I overthink everything. Does this sound like you?
If so, keep reading.
Relax your mind in any way that works for you.
Do what you find relaxes you. This will help you with your thinking.
Take each and every thought one step at a time.
If you can, try to rearrange your thoughts and regain focus.
By focusing on certain decisions, instead of them all at once, you give yourself room to breathe.
And to think.
When you try to tackle everything on your own, you will get overwhelmed.
Making decisions now becomes 10 times harder than it has to be.
You need to take baby steps when working through several thoughts. Or weighing different decisions at once.
Get your priorities together girl!
I mean it.
You have too many things going on in that brain of yours.
While the brain is powerful, it can be draining to try to focus on everything at once.
So it is time to prioritize.
A good way to do this is to put together a quick list.
Jot down what is more important for you to focus on right now.
Then list those things that can wait or are not as urgent.
This will help you to make decisions super easy.
Think about the decisions you need to make and then prioritize them.
Once you have everything listed out, try to go down the list and check off things.
You may be super surprised at how much you can get done in so little time.
And you may be shocked at the quality of the decisions that you make.
Because that is important.
It is not enough to just make decisions. But you definitely need to make sure those decisions are good ones.
How can I stop overthinking so much? you ask. Get some sleep and rest. I know what you’re thinking, what does sleep have to do with it. But you’ll be surprised.
Sleep is so important and not being well-rested can lead to poor decisions.
You need to calm your mind before going to sleep. This can be tough.
A lot of times, I go to bed and my mind is still racing. That is a problem.
You are going to wake up tired every single day if you never turn your brain off.
Of course, I don’t mean literally turn it off. You couldn’t do that if you wanted to.
However, your mind needs to sleep when you sleep.
To sleep but have a racing mind leads to sleep that is not restful.
You will wake up feeling so tired and like you haven’t slept in weeks.
Trust me, I know this all too well.
So you should do something to wind down at night. Something that takes your mind off of things.
I can’t say exactly what activities you should do because this varies from person to person.
If you want to make decision making easier, you should start by getting good rest.
It is seriously so hard to get good rest especially when you have a full plate.
When there are decisions to be made and things to be done you probably think you don’t have time for rest.
Make time for it.
You need rest to be at your best. No I didn’t say that just to rhyme.
How can I stop overthinking so much? That is the question that you are asking yourself.
Well, I have the answer.
You can take any steps but if you follow the steps I have laid out for you, it will be easier to stop overthinking yourself and everything in between.
When you do finally stop overthinking so much, you will then be able to focus on one thing at a time and make wise decisions.
